Google's major upgrade signals the beginning of the AI agent era. Last week, the most significant event in the AI community was Google's multimodal AI model Gemini, and the overall upgrade exceeded expectations. Google's recent progress in artificial intelligence, particularly the introduction of the new multimodal AI model named Gemini, indeed represents a significant leap in the capabilities of AI agents like Bard.
Gemini is designed to process and combine various types of information, including text, code, audio, images, and videos. It comes in three different sizes: Ultra, Pro, and Nano, each tailored for a range of tasks from highly complex to efficient device operations.
The integration of Gemini Pro with Bard significantly enhances Bard's capabilities, enabling it to perform tasks such as planning routes, analyzing shopping choices, event planning, and flight analysis. The upgrade with Gemini Pro is described as the most substantial quality improvement for Bard since its launch, currently available in English in over 170 countries and regions. Functionalities supported by Gemini Pro for Bard will expand to multimodal support in the coming months, including text and images.
The expected launch of Gemini Ultra next year aims to achieve more sophisticated multimodal reasoning capabilities. Bard, with Gemini Ultra, will be able to understand and take action on different types of information, including text, images, audio, video, and code. Before a broader release, Bard Advanced with Gemini Ultra will undergo a trusted testing program and additional security checks early next year.
This shift indicates that as AI agents become more integrated into daily life, there is significant disruptive potential across various fields, including advertising and e-commerce. After the model release, Google's Bard has also undergone a significant upgrade and has now, in a sense, become an AI agent. It can help plan routes, analyze shopping, assist in event planning, and analyze flights.
Let's take a look at two scenarios:
Scenario 1: Show me the flights to Madrid to visit my aunt during the week of January 22nd. Also, suggest gift ideas; she likes dolphins and playing cards. Bard would combine flight information with gift suggestions.
Scenario 2: Help me plan a game night with five friends. I have dice and playing cards, but no board games. I'm willing to buy a board game for under $100.
In the future, you'll simply need to share your ideas with Bard, and it will efficiently handle and solve tasks. In the coming years, companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple are poised to become individual AI agents.
Not long ago, Bill Gates fervently endorsed AI agents. In a recent blog post, Gates mentioned AI personal assistant agents, foreseeing a change in how we interact with computers. The core idea of AI agents involves interacting with computers using natural language rather than relying on various distinct applications. This technology is expected to rapidly develop in the next five years, profoundly impacting the tech industry and society.
AI personal assistant agents typically consist of three components: natural language processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence technologies. These agents understand user needs and perform tasks such as answering questions, executing tasks, providing suggestions, with personalized responses and continuous improvement.
This concept's development will change our daily lives and work, making interactions with computers more natural and efficient. Gates emphasized the potential of AI agents, considering them a key direction for future artificial intelligence, surpassing traditional generative AI models.
Gates believes that within the next five years, everyone will have an AI personal assistant agent, fundamentally altering our way of life. Agents will impact four major areas: healthcare, education, productivity, and entertainment and shopping. In healthcare, agents will assist in basic triage and offer health advice, improving medical efficiency.
In education, personalized learning guidance will be provided to students, aiding teachers in better lesson planning. Additionally, agents will enhance entertainment and shopping experiences, making services more accessible and personalized. Agents will change how we interact with computers, disrupting the software industry and providing a more convenient, intelligent lifestyle.
AI personal assistant agents are a future technological trend, expected to completely change how we interact with computers, making it more intelligent and natural.
Lane Club believes that in the AI agent era, companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple will create generalized GPA (General Personal Assistant) platforms. On these platforms, a range of specialized SPAs (Scenario Personal Assistants) will emerge, focusing on various scenarios. In the AI agent era, global tech giants could build generalized GPA platforms. These platforms could be viewed as infrastructure, supporting the development of various personal assistant applications capable of performing a wide range of tasks and serving diverse user needs. Additionally, these platforms will support a variety of specialized SPAs, offering more focused and in-depth services.
The emergence and development of GPA and SPA may disrupt business models, customer relationship management, and market strategies. Companies must adapt to these technological advancements to remain competitive and meet future consumer demands.
In the PA model, businesses need to adapt to new market dynamics, innovate their products, services, and marketing strategies. Simultaneously, this presents significant opportunities for enterprises that can leverage PA technology to enhance user experiences.
Lane Club continues to recommend embracing the wave of AI and GC, emphasizing the importance of preparation for the future that is already here. This transformation is not just a gradual change but a revolutionary wave reshaping how we interact with technology and conduct business.
