A lighter device than its predecessors, the Fold 5’s new hinge design now allows it to open flat and removes the small gap where dirt and debris could get into on previous Fold models. While it’s still bulky when folded up, it is slightly thinner than the Fold 4. What’s more, its display brightness has been increased to 1,750 nits peak. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series smartphones have always folded in half, like an old-school flip phone when closed. But they’ve never opened up completely flat—until now.
